Kinnaird Castle |
The Castle lies in 1300 acres of magnificent walled parkland between the stunning Angus coastline and gently rolling glens, offering miles of varied walks through open countryside and woodlands dotted with follies, with an abundance of wildlife, deer and excellent fishing and shooting. Kinnaird Estate can offer salmon and trout fishing on the River South Esk or the Estate lakes if arranged well in advance of your stay.
Most of the original main bedroom floor of the Castle has been luxuriously converted into these two apartments to be enjoyed round the year. The area around Brechin and the Montrose Basin is largely undiscovered by the hordes of visitors to Scotland, yet is easily accessible from Dundee (40 mins.), Aberdeen (1 hr.), Edinburgh (1½ hrs.) and Glasgow (2 hrs.) airports, excellent main roads and is only 10 minutes from Montrose station on the main East Coast London-Aberdeen line.
There are golf courses for every standard of player. Carnoustie is only 25 minutes away and St Andrews less than an hour. Closer by are other picturesque (and maybe not quite so challenging!) courses at Edzell, Montrose, Strathmore and Letham Grange, all within 20 minutes of Kinnaird. The Angus glens make for pretty, bracken covered, gentle scenery stretching up to the Highlands and for those who crave more dramatic scenery Royal Deeside is 45 minutes drive away over the Cairn O’Mount.
Although both apartments have very well equipped kitchens, it is also possible to take advantage of a fine fully catered service offered at Kinnaird. This can include breakfast and three-course dinners, featuring an abundance of fine seasonal, local produce, with the additional facility of having all rooms cleaned and serviced daily.
Guests in both the Macduff Tower and Barony apartment may use an allocated area of garden a little way from the Castle.
It should be noted that both the Macduff Tower and Barony apartment are at the top of two long flights of stairs, so are not really suitable for those who may have walking difficulties.
The Macduff Tower offers five bedroom / five bathroom accommodation for up to 10 people.
The Macduff Tower is on the second floor of Kinnaird Castle, with its own entrance from the courtyard. The apartment is fully heated year round, with round the clock piping hot water, and an open fire in the sitting room for which logs are provided.
