Littleham, surrounded by spectacular countryside, is close to the attractive port town of Bideford (3 miles) and the hill top town of Torrington (7 miles). Both towns have pannier markets. There are footpaths and bridle paths directly accessible from the Cottage gate and the disused Old Rectory drive winds gently down for nearly a mile through a secluded wooded valley to the drive gate below.

Nearby, there are a variety of beaches, some rocky, some sandy. The coastal walks of the South West Coastal Footpath being within 3 miles. A footpath and cycle track (The Tarka Trail) follows the old railway track for over 30 miles through some of the loveliest scenery. Exmoor and Dartmoor and the North Cornwall coast are easily accessible. There are a number of well known gardens to visit in the area, and the world famous RHS garden of Rosemoor (www.rhs.org.uk/WhatsOn/Gardens/rosemoor ) is seven miles away.

The historic little fishing village of Clovelly clings to a wooded 400ft cliff 11 miles west of BidefordFlower strewn 16th century cottages, old inns, tea rooms and craft shops, line the single cobbled traffic-free high street which winds its way down the hillside to the tiny harbour below.

The wonderful setting of Clovelly can be fully appreciated both from the coast path above, with breathtaking views across Bideford Bay and from the pebbled beach below where there are stunning views across the estuary and the vista of a lovely waterfall springing from the cliff face and gently trickling to the sea below.

Charles Kingsley spent his childhood here, and the scenic beauty of Clovelly is reflected in his books, The Water Babies and Westward Ho, written whilst in Clovelly.

Clovelly Quay dates back to the 14th century, and as to be expected, there's a host of smuggling and pirate history associated with this charming Devon village. Many ships have been wrecked off Clovelly, and the village still has it's own lifeboat station.

Clovelly retains it’s tranquil atmosphere whilst still with plenty to see and do.

There is an artificial grass tennis court which you are most welcome to use by arrangement as to time. Please use suitably soled footwear. We can lend racquets and balls. There is also a large croquet lawn which we should be delighted for you to use. Please ask for equipment. Bicycles may be hired from Bideford Bicycle Hire on the Tarka Trail (booking recommended during the summer months)

There are many walks locally, with spectacular scenery of many kinds.-sandy beaches, rocky beaches, moorland, wooded valleys and streams, unique sand dunes and estuaries. There is a collection of interesting books and local OS maps in the Cottage.

There is surfing at Westward Ho! Croyde and Woolacombe, and at Sandymouth in North Cornwall. Other water sports include canoeing and kite surfing.

There are theatres, cinemas, arts and museums seven miles away at Barnstaple and at Torrington.

Northam Burrows Country Park is world famous for migrating and estuary birds.
