Local Information for Strathtyrum House

The main attraction of Strathtyrum House is undoubtedly St Andrews Golf Course. There are several other good courses nearby including Ladybank Golf Club, Lundin Golf Links, Craighead Links, and Scotscraig Golf Course to name but a few.

As well as golf there are numerous other activities to entertain all ages, all situated close to Strathtyrum House.

The British Golf Museum tells the story of golf from its origins to the present day. There are many galleries including one on Unusual Clubs and the Inter-War Golf Gallery. The museum is open seven days a week all year round.

Cambo Gardens is privately owned by the Erskine family and consists of 70 acres of woodland and a 2 ½ acre Victorian walled garden designed around the Cambo Burn which has many rare and unusual plants. A woodland garden is being developed and further improvements are planned for the Walled Garden. It is open all year round from 10am till dusk.

Crawford Arts Centre is independently run as a charity. It provides exhibitions on visual art, craft and design, with the exhibitions changing every 7 weeks. Art classes can also be arranged for people of all ages.

Scotland’s Secret Bunker is situated beneath a farmhouse in Troywood, St Andrews. The Bunker is 24,000 square feet of secret accommodation on two levels, 100 feet underground. The Bunker has been fully restored with over 300 tons of original artifacts (including the nuclear button).

Kellie Castle and Garden is situated in Pittenweem and is a fine example of domestic architecture in Lowland Scotland. The oldest part is believed to date back to 1360. It contains magnificent plaster ceilings, painted panelling and furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer. The organic walled garden contains old fashioned roses, fruit trees and herbaceous plants.

The award-winning Scottish Fisheries Museum tells the story of the Scottish Fishing Industry from the earliest times to the present day. They have many boats, fishing equipment, photographs and paintings on display and a new ‘Zulu’ gallery.

The town of Dunfermline is situated 5 miles from the shore of the Firth of Forth estuary and has many attractions for visitors. Visit the Dunfermline Abbey Church, the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, Abbot House, Botanic Gardens, the Sea Life Centre and The Glen.

St Andrews is also situated close to Kirkcaldy which holds an annual ‘market’. In April 2006 the Links Market transforms Kirkcaldy’s promenade into a mile-long ‘market’ which is filled with every conceivable fairground attraction as well as other stalls.
