Local Information for Tissington

Tissington in Derbyshire is a well managed estate village which, to many, appears to be the model village. One of the main attractions is Tissington Hall which is a Jacobean mansion and home to the FitzHerbert family for over 400 years. It is still occupied by the same family and has recently been opened to the public for special occasions or by prior arrangement.

The Old Coach House is an award winning tea room in the renovated Coach House to Tissington Hall. It is open daily from 1 March to 31 October and during the remainder of the year it is open from Thursday to Sunday.

The Tissington Trail is an easy and pleasant walk which follows the line of the former Ashbourne to Buxton railway line. Bicycles can be hired (in season) to ride along it.

Ilam Hall and the popular country park in Ilam Village belong to the National Trust. What’s left of the Hall is still imposing and there is much to see and do in the grounds. There are memorials of the Meverell and Watts families and there are also remains of two Saxon crosses and a shrine to St Bertram.
