Strathtyrum House

Strathtyrum House

The association between Strathtyrum and the Golf Course goes back to James Cheape of Wellfield, whose descendants still own the house and estate, who both built the very elegant house in 1782 and then purchased St Andrews Links in 1821 — to rescue it from being turned over to rabbit farming! The family no longer owns the golf courses, but the association continues with bunkers on the 2nd and 17th fairways of the Old Course bearing the name ‘Cheape’s’ and the Strathtyrum course being laid on land sold by the late Mrs Gladys Cheape in 1986.

St Andrews has more than just golf to offer to holidaymakers: a busy, attractive town with many good inns and restaurants, it is situated overlooking one of the most picturesque sandy bays on the whole of Scotland’s east coast.
